Journal Notes

In late spring 1988, Marc and Kim travelled to Korea with their then 5-month old baby Guy and with Marc's sister Michele both to research Korean food and drink at the source as well as rediscover Marc and Michele's Korean roots through their grandmother Bok Dok Sur, who immigrated to Hawaii in the 1920's as a picture bride. For us all, it was a real journey, not just halfway across the world, but to a past more dream than reality. Indeed, this trip made tangible the bits and pieces garnered over the years from the sometimes elusive, sometimes sharply focused remembrances of our octogenarian grandmother. These "journal notes" give a flavour not only of Korean food, but of our too brief experiences in a wonderful and exciting country.
